General Questions

How do I get started?

To get started with your monitoring service, simply download the Connected Caregiver app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store on your smart phone. The first time you open the app, you will be guided through creating your account.

What are medical alert devices?

Medical alert devices include both at-home systems and wearable, on-the go devices that allow seniors, or other people prone to falls or other emergency situations to quickly alert emergency responders should the need occur.

Typical on-the-go devices include pendents that can be worn around the neck or on a belt, watches or other items that include an emergency help button that communicates with a monitoring center when pressed. Some on-the-go devices include fall detection that automatically alerts the monitoring center should a potential fall be detected.

How quickly will Connected Caregiver alert me of a problem?

Connected Caregiver will send you an alert as soon as it detects your loved one has an emergency like a fall, has missed a reading, or has a result that falls outside the target range set by you (ideally with guidance from your loved one’s doctor).

Can I choose what smart devices I need?

Connected Caregiver offers 4G-enabled smart devices that automatically sync your vitals with the app. To add smart devices, visit the “Manage Devices” section of the Connected Caregiver app.

Help! I forgot my login password.

No problem! From the login screen tap the “forgot your password” link. You will receive an email with simple one step instructions for changing your password. If you have any trouble, just give us a call at 877-774-4363 for help.

How do I get started?

What do I do if I forgot my password?

How do I set alerts?

To set up your alert preferences, select “Tracking” from the footer menu, then select the gear icon in the top right corner to turn on the specific tracking cards for which you would like to receive notifications.

From the tracking menu, select the bell icon associated with each tracking card to configure threshold alerts (i.e. “too high” or “too low”) and missed reading alerts for that card.

For Prompter Connected Pillbox, click the “Medications” tab.  Add your individual Medications by tapping on the “+” symbol.  At the top of the screen, you can toggle over to “Schedules” to set up pill take schedules (days and times as well as which Medications).  In Schedules, you can also set up Reminders (for the Loved One taking the pills) and Alerts (for the Caregiver who wants to receive an Alert for a potentially missed medication time).

How do I set my thresholds?

Select “Tracking” from the footer menu, then select the gear icon in the top right corner to turn on the specific tracking cards for which you would like to set thresholds.

From the tracking menu, select the bell icon associated with each tracking card to configure threshold values for that card.  

You can also choose to be alerted if a certain # of days pass without a measurement being taken (so you can check in and gently remind the Loved One to take their measurement. 🙂 ).

For Prompter Connected Pillbox, there are no “thresholds”.  However you can choose to set up schedules and, if the Prompter does not detect that the Pillbox has been interacted with by the end of the pill take time, you can choose to receive an alert so you can follow up with your Loved One.

What type of alerts do I have access to?

Users have access to a variety of alerts, all customizable within the Connected Caregiver App:

    • Care Essentials Features: Users can specify threshold settings (i.e. vital target ranges), missed reading settings (i.e. the cutoff time and frequency expected for readings to be completed), as well as alerts for missed medication schedules
    • Safety Monitoring: Users can specify the care essentials details above plus alert settings for falls, SoS button presses, first motion of the day, geofence boundary breaks, battery levels, and steps.

Safety Monitoring Questions

How do I change my Safety+ pendant to be worn with a belt clip?

You can remove the lanyard by twisting and pulling the silver clip at the top of the pendant. Then, pull the lanyard and clip away from the device. Once the lanyard has been removed, you can press the belt clip onto the back of the pendant until you hear a click.

How does fall detection work?

When the pendant detects a fall, you will first hear the recording: “Fall detected, hold the call button to cancel.” If you do not need assistance, you can hold down the call button within a few seconds to cancel the alarm, and you will not connect with the emergency services specialist. When the alarm is canceled, you will hear the recording: “Fall detection canceled.” We cannot guarantee that the service will always accurately determine a fall. It’s advised that you always press the button if you need help.  If you are unable to answer the specialist when they call or you answer that you need help, emergency help (911) will be dispatched to your location (based on GPS location of the device).

How does the emergency button (SOS button) work?

For emergency calls, press and hold the Call Button until the light turns blue.  After a brief delay, you’ll hear a voice message and ringing. A specialist will answer the call and can send emergency services or a Loved One to you if there is an emergency.  (If you reply that you are OK and help is not needed, no emergency services will be dispatched).

How do I clean my device?

It’s recommended that you clean the device weekly using a soft cloth such as an eye glass cleaning cloth. To do so, gently rub the gold contacts on the pendant and charging cradle to remove dirt, oil, and debris.

How do I define who will be alerted in the event of an emergency?

In the Connected Caregiver app, tap the “Care Circle” icon in the top right corner of the screen (it looks like a person’s silhouette). From there, you can add members to the care circle by tapping the “+” icon.

Each member of the care circle is responsible for adding their own contact information and configuring their own alerts from the “Tracking” section.  In the event of a Fall or SOS Alert, each contact can choose if and how (Text, Push, Email) they wish to be alerted.

Prompter Pillbox Questions

How do I load medication?

Simply open the Prompter (opens like a clamshell) to reveal 14 individual compartments. Each compartment opens independently with its own door. Each compartment represents a different scheduled medication take time (i.e. day and time of day customized to your individual schedule), so all of the different medications that should be taken at that time should be loaded into a single compartment.

How do I know which compartment contains my medication?

Medication schedules are not linked to specific compartments. Please label each individual compartment with the included stickers or using the included felt tip dry erase pen (you can wipe off the pen with damp paper towel if you need to modify). If any compartment doors are opened during the scheduled medication time, it will count as a successful interaction.

What if I missed my scheduled medication time?

If the scheduled medication time ends with no interaction being detected, the lights on the Prompter will flash red for 10 minutes. If you have set up missed dose alerts using the Connected Caregiver App, you will also receive an alert via the alert channels you have specified (text, email, in app push).

Can my Loved One (defined as the person using the Prompter) receive a reminder?

Yes! In addition to the indicator lights (they glow green when it’s time to take the medicine) on the Prompter Pillbox itself, you can setup a reminder for your Loved One while creating a medication schedule. Reminders can be sent as a text message, email, or push notification.

In order to receive in-app push reminders, the Loved One must have a smart phone with the Connected Caregiver app installed and be signed into their Connected Caregiver account. In order to receive text or email reminders, the Loved One must have a valid cell phone number or email address on file in their user profile. Can I (as the Family Caregiver) be notified when my Loved One potentially misses a dose?

Yes! Using the Connected Caregiver app, you can setup missed dose alerts in either the “tracking” section, or while creating a medication schedule. Alerts can be sent as a text message, email, or in app push notification.

In order to receive push reminders, you must have a smart phone with the Connected Caregiver app installed and be signed into your Connected Caregiver account. In order to receive text or email reminders, you must have a valid cell phone number or email address on file in your user profile.

Each Care Circle member is responsible for setting up their own custom alerts. For detailed instructions, please see this helpful article.

How do I save medications using the Connected Caregiver App?

How do I track interaction (i.e. Prompter Pillbox was moved and a pill door opened) history?

To view and export interaction history, tap the “Tracking” button (bottom navigation) from anywhere in the app to reach the Tracking page. Tap on the tracking card for Prompter (if you don’t see a card for Prompter, you may need to press the blue + button and turn on the toggle switch for Prompter).

You will see a graph for the current period’s interactions, as well as a list of previous interactions below. You may also export the history into a CSV by tapping the export button in the top right of the screen. For detailed instructions, please see this helpful article.

How do I read the interaction history graph?

Each day is represented as a bar on the Prompter tracking card bar graph. The bar represents a percentage of medication take times that were successfully adhered to. The simple answer is that a higher number is better with 100% indicating all medication schedules have been adhered to and 0% indicating that none of the medication schedules have been adhered to.

For example, if you have two scheduled medication take times during the day, and the Prompter registered an interaction during one schedule but not the other, the graph will show 50% for the day. If the medications were taken after the scheduled end time, it will not count as a success, however you will still see the door open and close events in the interaction history.

The graph for the current day is only representative of medication take times that have already occurred. Continuing in the previous example, let’s assume that the first medication take time was scheduled between 7 AM and 8 AM, while the second was scheduled between 5 PM and 6 PM. If the first medication time was registered as a success and the current time is 1 PM, the graph will show 100% for the day. This is because the second scheduled medication take time has not yet occurred.

What types of medication can be used with Prompter?

Pills, capsules, or anything that you would store in a typical countertop pillbox. The Prompter is not designed to store liquid medications or syringes. Prompter is designed to work at temperatures above 0o F, but the device may not be able to communicate with the cellular hub if stored inside of a refrigerator.

How many pills can fit in a single compartment?

The Prompter compartments are large and can store up to 15-20 large capsules.

Is this covered by health insurance?

Unfortunately, at this time, Prompter is not covered by health insurance including Medicare or Medicaid.

Why is there a subscription fee?

Prompter requires a cellular 4G connection to work, similar to your cell phone. The subscription fee covers the cost of your device’s data plan as well as several other costs included as part of our continuing service.

How does the app receive information from the Prompter?

Prompter comes with built in Bluetooth communication capabilities. A Bluetooth hub is included with your Prompter. The hub is able to receive information directly from the Prompter and transmit it to the cloud using built-in 4G cellular technology. The prompter must be placed within 15 feet of the hub with a clear “line of sight” to make sure that they can communicate.

How do I connect my Prompter?

Simply load three AA batteries into the prompter, then plug the Bluetooth hub into an outlet within 15 feet of where you plan to keep your Prompter. Your Prompter and hub come pre-paired and pre-assigned to your user profile, so that you don’t have to worry about pairing the devices or connecting to a network.

If you purchased your Prompter from a third-party marketplace (Amazon, Facebook, etc) you will have to call into our call center to have your device activation completed. Please call us at 877-774-4363.

Can I have more than one Prompter?

Yes! Each Prompter will be paired to it’s own individual Bluetooth hub so if you have more than one, you may want to label them to avoid future confusion if you need to relocate it.

How do I add additional Caregivers?

Using the Connected Caregiver app, you can invite other Caregivers to the Loved One’s Care Circle. Tap the “Care Circle” button in the top right corner of the app to reach the Care Circle page. Tap on the blue + button, then “Invite Other Caregivers.” This will send a 4 digit code via text or email that will help them join the Care Circle and have access to all the information within the Connected Caregiver App. For detailed instructions, please see this helpful article.

What if my Loved One doesn’t have a smartphone?

No worries. Your Loved One never has to log in or use the Connected Caregiver app if they don’t want to. You are able to completely set up their medications and schedules from your own account for them. You can even set up text or email reminders for them if they are able to receive those. If they don’t use a cell phone or email at all, the Prompter has built in LED lights that can notify your Loved One when it’s time to take their meds just by looking at it. Can I travel with my Prompter?

Yes! Just make sure to bring your Bluetooth hub with you. Note that for any schedules that may occur during travel while the hub is unplugged will not be recorded, so make sure to manually keep track until the hub is plugged back in. The Prompter and hub will pair automatically when the hub is connected to power.

How do I add an email address or phone number for Care Circle members?

Using the Connected Caregiver app, tap the “Care Circle” button in the top right corner of the app to reach the Care Circle page. Tap on the person whose profile you wish to edit then tap the “Edit” button. After making any desired changes, tap “Save”

Note that a Primary Caregiver may edit their own profile, the Loved One’s profile, and professional contacts, but may not edit Secondary Caregiver Profiles. Other members of the Care Circle may only edit their own profile and professional contacts. For detailed instructions, please see this helpful article.

Can I test to see if my Prompter is connected to the Hub?

Yes. From the home screen, tap the hamburger menu icon (thee horizontal lines) in the upper left corner of the screen to open the side menu. From the side menu, tap “Devices” then tap on “Prompter Connected Pillbox.” Tap the “Test Connection” button. The device may not respond for up to two minutes. During the test, the LED lights on the pillbox will flash green, yellow, and red. If the lights come on, the test was successful. If the lights do not appear after waiting at least two minutes, please call support at 877-774-4363.

Before performing the test, please make sure that the Prompter has working batteries and that the hub is plugged in and within 15 feet of the Prompter with a clear “line of sight”. Please refrain from moving or interacting with the Prompter during the two minute test window.

What do the flashing colored lights mean?

During a medication schedule, the LED lights on the Prompter will flash different colors depending on the status of the schedule. When the schedule start time occurs, the lights will flash GREEN. At the reminder time (which is when a text, email or push reminder can also be sent), the lights will change from green to YELLOW. Note that if the reminder time and schedule start time are the same, the lights will start out yellow, never flashing green. If the schedule end time occurs, and the medication has not yet been taken, the lights will begin flashing RED (if a Missed Take Time alert has been set up, it will be sent when the lights start flashing RED). After 10 minutes of flashing red, the lights will discontinue flashing. If at any point while the lights are flashing any color, if the pillbox registers an interaction, the lights will discontinue flashing until the next medication schedule.

How do I use only for myself (i.e. no one else being alerted)?

If you wish to use the Prompter for self-monitoring, simply select the “Monitoring Myself” option when first creating your account. If you have already setup an account with a Caregiver and wish to remove them, please contact support at 877-774-4363.
